Black

(much more after the break)

You may have heard the first two singles, “Somewhere on a Beach” and “Different for Girls”, floating around radio waves but there are plenty of other solid tracks throughout Dierks Bentley’s album titled “Black”.

It’s been a while but after listening to Dierks Bentley’s new album I couldn’t help but share it. Capitol Records released the album on May 27th so if you haven’t heard of it you better give it a listen. This is one of the few albums you can listen through from the first to the last song without having to skip a thing. The album follows the ups and downs of a long term relationship, the mix of feelings that accompany it, and the temptations that present themselves. Dierks did some growing up for this album and as a fan we couldn’t be happier.

The Songs:

Black
Light the candles, close the shades and uncork the wine. The sexiness just flows out the speakers through the lyrics and beat of the music. If you have a special person in your life this will bring them to the front of your consciousness and give you a soundtrack to the highlights that play in your mind.

Pickup
Times are tough. Communication has broken down and he is trying everything he can to get back together with his former lover. No matter what he does nothing is working…he just wants some kind of a response.

I’ll be the Moon (ft. Maren Morris)
On to the more controversial side of relationships, Dierks dives into an affair but not from the usual perspective. He takes the feelings and emotions of the guy that’s the booty call rather than the man being cheated on. This one pulls on the heart strings.

What the hell did I say
That mistake where you drunkenly call the one person you know you shouldn’t when you hear last call. You have no idea what was said but you know it was a mistake.

Somewhere on a beach
Being played out on the radio is this upbeat tune on a very dark album. I’m sure you know all about this by now.

Freedom
There comes a time in everybody’s life where they just get tired of being told what to do and want to make their own choices. No more taking orders. This song pays homage to that desire to be free.

Why Do I Feel
When things are going great and you seem to have everything, you always see a problem. This causes you mess things up because you think there’s an issue but the only problem is your ability to be happy.

Roses and a Time Machine
She’s pissed and she is gone. There’s no fixing what ‘s been done and the only way to save things is to go back in time with “Roses and a Time Machine”. Why couldn’t you just be happy. Now you have to and find Doc and the DeLorean to save the future.

All the Way to Me
Cliché country music references are a plenty in this tune but you’ll be singing along after your first listen.

Different for Girls (ft. Elle King)
Currently getting some attention on the radio. When a relationship meets it unfortunate end there are generally different ways guys and gals go about recovering. This explores the two sides of the story and is extremely relatable.

Mardi Gras (ft. Trombone Shorty)
Gotta love the horns and the overall sound of this track. It’s much different from what’s on the radio and quite refreshing. The lyrics on the other hand relate the feeling of a girl to the excitement of Mardi Gras. Definitely original and is getting put on my summer playlist.

Light it up
Simple lyrics and the celebration of the ways he feels about his partner.

Can’t be replaced
We all have those moments and people that cannot simply be replaced. When they are gone they take a little piece with you with them and keep you wishing for them to return. This is a tribute to those people and moments that left their mark on you and helped make you the person you are today.

Check out the Rolling Stone for some more back story of the album.

Last but not least check out the little miniseries of music videos for I'll be the Moon, What the Hell Did I Say, Pick Up and Black.
